Hilván — a preliminary stitch, a gesture that holds things together before they are fully formed.
For some time now, digitalization has been causing a forgetting of our ways of creating. Hands have retreated, and the contact between matter and skin has been lost.
This project brings together the singular act of making by hand: putting the body into the process, experimenting with materiality, texture, and the value found within them. The desire behind Hilván is to give form to a project that fuses matter and thread, and to inspire others that keep craftsmanship alive.
We designed a typeface inspired by the gesture of the preliminary stitch.
And a code representing each artisan
We developped a whole system capable to represent hilván
We looked for artisans in our country who continue to work with their hands and tried with this brand, to create a space for them to share
